Calculator inputs

Market values, rates, prior-year figures and status choices are processed by JavaScript on the page. They are not sent to the server, not written to a cookie and not kept after you close the tab. The site sets no cookies at all and does not use local storage for your figures.

Usage events table

A short script written for this site posts anonymous events to /fieldbook on this same domain, and the server files each one as a row in an events table. A row carries: a timestamp and date; this site’s hostname; the page path; what happened (the page loaded, a worksheet was first touched, a worksheet produced a priced result, the reader got three-quarters of the way down, a link to another state sheet or to a cited source was followed, the page was shared or printed); a short label such as a state code or the host of an outside link; a random identifier created for one page view and discarded afterwards; the referring website’s host; a broad acquisition category such as search or social; whether the screen is phone-sized; the page template; and the country code supplied by the network. The user agent is read only to drop automated traffic and is never stored. No IP address is stored.

Corrections queue

When you send the corrections form, the server stores the time, the page path you name, the problem type, your message and, only if you provide it, a reply address. It stores no IP address, browser details or calculator figures. Reports are used to fix the site and, where you asked for one, to reply. They are not sold or shared.

Shared links

The Share button copies a link whose fragment (the part after #) contains the current form values. Browsers do not send the fragment to the server, but anyone you give the link to can read those values, and the link stays in your browser history.

Hosting and network providers

Pages, the worksheet script, the events endpoint and the corrections form all run on Cloudflare. Like any host, its edge sees each request as it passes through, both to answer it and to screen out attacks; Cloudflare’s published privacy policy governs that handling. No page here pulls in an outside analytics tag, web font or ad script.

Advertising

Advertising is switched off in this deployment. Should that change, a consent mechanism would be added first and this page updated before any advertising script loads.

Retention and requests

Usage events are kept in aggregate-friendly form without identifiers, so there is nothing that can be tied back to you. To ask about or remove a correction report you sent, use the contact form and describe the report.
