State and District rule sources

Accepted sources are statutes and constitutions published by legislatures, state revenue or tax-commission pages, bulletins and forms, and the District’s Office of Tax and Revenue. Where a figure is set locally, no source is cited for a number because the calculator asks you for it. The verification policy is in the editorial policy.

Census context figures

The Census context on each page uses the 2024 American Community Survey five-year release, covering 2020–2024: table B25077 (median value of owner-occupied housing units) and table B25103 (median real-estate taxes paid). State and District rows, estimates and margins of error were read from the official table-based summary files; the downloaded files’ SHA-256 hashes are recorded in the data file.

Transfer tax sources

The separate transfer-tax calculators cite their own statutes: Georgia, Michigan, Illinois, Kentucky, Delaware, New Hampshire, South Carolina, Vermont, Colorado.
